Basketball: Fenerbahçe lose Turkish Airlines Euroleague final
Fenerbahçe take CSKA Moscow to overtime only to lose 101-96.
BERLIN (AA) - Fenerbahçe became 2015-16 Turkish Airlines Euroleague runners-up after losing to CSKA Moscow 101-96 in overtime in the final at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin late on Sunday.
After finishing the first half 20 points behind their opponents (30-50), Fenerbahçe closed the gap with high-class defending, successful offensive rebounds and some marvellous three-pointers by Bobby Dixon.
At the end of the most intense second half of the season, the score was 83-83 : the game went into overtime.
The five minutes added time did not bring Fenerbahçe what they had hoped for : with impressive success rates, especially in their free throws, CSKA won the Euroleague championship by 101 to 96 points.
CSKA Moscow guard Nando De Colo was the top scorer of the match with 22 points. He ended his season with an impressive 93% success rate in free throws. His teammate, Milos Teodosic, tallied 19 points for CSKA.
The Russian team's center Kyle Hines scored 15 points.
Fenerbahçe guard Bobby Dixon poured in 17 points. Fenerbahce forward Luigi Datome, centers Pero Antic and Ekpe Udoh scored 16 points each.
