3 projectiles hit Turkey's southeastern Kilis

Police officer killed, 2 soldiers slightly injured during disposal of unexploded rocket.

KILIS, Turkey (AA) - Three rockets fired from Daesh-controlled territory in Syria hit Turkey’s southeastern border province of Kilis Saturday, the local governor said.

According to a written statement from the governor's office, two of the rockets hit a hilly area close to the border while the third one fell into an empty field in the neighborhood of Ekrem Cetin, in the province center.

According to the governor's statement, a police officer was killed and two soldiers were slightly injured during the destruction of an unexploded rocket.

The injured soldiers were taken to Kilis State Hospital.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.

Meanwhile, Turkish Armed Forces responded to the attack immediately by shelling Daesh positions with howitzers and multiple rocket launchers, the army said in a written statement.

The army also said the projectiles hit the province at around 3.40 p.m. (1240GMT).

Kilis province lies six kilometers (four miles) from the Syrian border.

Daesh has targeted Turkey’s border Kilis province with rocket shell attacks since January 2016, killing 21 people and injuring more than 80 others.
